This scholarship isn't just about having perfect grades (although you can definitely mention your academic prowess!), and it isn't just about being a fantastic writer (although good grammar, spelling, and punctuation will definitely help!). It's about what makes you 'you.'

What Do You Care About?

Whether your 'thing' is spreading the gospel or becoming a tatoo artist, teaching orphans or LARPing, we want to hear what interests you...and, more importantly, what you do to pursue those interests. If your focus is grades, great! Tell us how you've busted your tail for years to maintain that 4.0 GPA. But if you care most about stamp collecting, that's also great! Describe why you're the best philatelist you can possibly be (NOTE: if your topic is illegal or unpublishable, DON'T BOTHER SENDING IT).

At the same time, you don't have to be the best at one thing for you to win our vote. If you're the All Star MVP, great! But if you choose to spread your time between a bunch of interests, that's also great! What's important isn't your level of success, but your level of involvement. If you aren't motivated or dedicated then this scholarship is not for you, even if you're a natural athlete or a true-born genius.

Our application raters' biggest focus is going to be the impact you've had on others. If you are that brilliant student, how did you share your knowledge? If you are that budding athlete, who else has benefited from your talent? If you break dance, rock climb, or rebuild cars, is someone else glad that you do? Feel free to look ahead, as well; if you plan to cure diseases in foreign countries or breed the finest Dobermann Pinschers ever, tell us!
